At the 32nd edition of the International Wheat Industry Congress, science took center stage with the participation of Embrapa Wheat in debates traditionally focused on the market. The event, held from October 20 to 22 in Rio de Janeiro, was promoted by Abitrigo. In the early 2000s, wheat production met 30% of the national demand. In the 2022 harvest, production met 83% of the demand, falling again in 2024 when it met about 60% of consumption. "In a scenario of continuous growth in area and maintenance of productivity indices in the crops, self-sufficiency in wheat could be achieved in the coming years," believes the General Manager of Embrapa Wheat, Jorge Lemainski.
