Corn is the basis of animal production in Santa Catarina. This is no small feat, as last year the State established itself as the largest exporter of pigs in the country and remained in second place when it comes to the commercialization of poultry abroad. In 2025 the State produced 910.5 million birds and 18.3 million heads of pigs. To feed this livestock, which also includes beef and dairy cattle, Santa Catarina demanded 8 million tons of corn in 2025. Of this total, about 2.7 million tons were produced in the Santa Catarina territory during the 2024/25 harvest, the rest came from other States or countries. To support this important production chain, researchers from Epagri/Ciram made the thermal favorability for the occurrence of two pests available on the Agroconnect platform: corn leaf aphid and corn earworm.
