In 2019, the European Union saw a 2.4% increase in total agricultural production, despite a decrease in Italy's agricultural production. The Italian agri-food sector, however, experienced a 1% increase in value added at current prices and a slight 0.1% increase in volume. Southern Italy, specifically Calabria, Campania, Umbria, and Liguria, saw a 2.3% increase in production. Consumer prices also rose by 1.5% across the EU, with the most significant increases in Poland, Romania, Germany, and Denmark. There was a decline in wine production, industrial crops, and fruit and citrus sector production, while cereals, fresh vegetables, and olive oil production increased. The EU also experienced a 3.6% increase in animal production, with the main increases being in pigs, milk, and sheep and goats.
