The European Union's crop monitoring service, MARS, has lowered its yield forecasts for corn, sunflower, and soybean crops due to excessive rainfall, particularly in southeastern Europe. The average corn yield for 2024 is now projected at 6.66 metric tons per hectare, down from 6.85 t/ha in September and 11% below last year's yield. Sunflower and soybean yield forecasts have also been reduced. However, the EU sugar beet yield outlook has been raised. The excessive rainfall has also delayed sowing for next year's winter crops.
