PANCHAGARH, June 12, 2021(BSS)–Farmers are happy over litchi production in the district as they are getting much yield beyond expectation. The delicious fruit has already arrived in the local markets in the district. Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said the commercial cultivation of litchi started here about 10 years ago and is increasing every year. Some 1000 hectares of land has been brought under litchi cultivation in the district this year whereas it was 850 hectares last year, they said. Around 525 tonnes of litchi might be produced from per hectare this year, they added. However, Litchi is cultivated on around 1500 hectares of land this year. Five varieties of litchi are grown by the farmers in district. These are local variety, China 2, 3 and 4 and Bombay. China 2, 3 and 4 are on great demand in markets.
