In the municipality of Caçapava do Sul (RS), on Lasier Garcia's property, the first animals from the Bovine Genetic Quality and Excellence Project for Family Farming (Qualigen) were born. These are the first results in the field of the project, with nine out of eleven inseminated cows resulting in the birth of calves. According to researcher Vivian Timpani from Embrapa Southern Livestock, it is already possible to observe in the animals some phenotypic characteristics that allow the identification of traits from the breeds used in the project. However, she stresses that it is still too early to evaluate the productive performance of the calves, "This information depends on the collection and analysis of data over time," she explains.
