(Gokseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Cheol-hong = On the 26th, Gokseong County, South Jeolla Province, announced that the first U.S. export of black waxy corn cultivated by Okgwan Agricultural Cooperative has begun.
The previous day, 4.5 tons of frozen black waxy corn from the Okgwan Agricultural Cooperative Agricultural Products Distribution Center (APC) was loaded for export to the U.S.
The black waxy corn from Gokseong will be shipped from Busan Port, passing through Los Angeles Port, and then supplied to local sales outlets in New Jersey.
This export is the first case initiated by the Okgwan Agricultural Cooperative through the support project for overseas permanent sales outlet promotion events, and the county plans to expand sales channels based on local responses.
An official from Gokseong County said, "The cooperation between farmers and the administration has led to the attempt of exporting the local specialty black waxy corn overseas" and "We will actively support the overseas entry of local agricultural products to revitalize the local economy."
