According to Shestakov, 2025 was challenging due to conflicting vectors: on one hand, a good salmon catch, on the other, the ivashi sardine did not enter the Russian zone. "The change in migration led to an almost complete absence of commercial sardine concentrations in Russian waters. Neither business nor science was ready for this," stated the head of Rosrybolovstvo. At the same time, there was an 11.3% increase in pollock, to more than 2.1 million tons, and the herring catch exceeded 596,000 tons - more than 30% higher than in 2024. Pacific salmon harvested was around 335,000 tons - a 40% increase from 2024. The volume of fish production was 4.135 million tons, with 34.2% of it being highly processed products. Fish consumption in Russia reached 25.8 kg per person per year with a self-sufficiency level of almost 123%. Fish product exports in 2025 amounted to 2.1 million tons.
