Heavy rainfall in Vietnam's Binh Thuan province has caused severe flooding, affecting hundreds of hectares of dragon fruit farms and displacing residents. The province, home to the largest dragon fruit crops in Vietnam, has seen significant damage to its agricultural output, with over 400 hectares and 200 households affected. The frequent severe weather conditions, which include flooding, have resulted in the loss of crops and significant financial losses, with the cost of damage reaching US$85m in the first seven months of 2024, more than double the previous year. The flooding has also led to the evacuation of over 70 residents and the death or disappearance of 91 people due to adverse weather conditions during the same period.
