Page Seven / La Paz Although the country imports and faces food smuggling, until April 11% more was exported in volume and 49% in value compared to the same period in 2020 and production (food) increased by 1.34%, according to data from the Institute. Bolivian Foreign Trade (IBCE). This year it is anticipated that the country may reach a production record with an expansion of more than 4%, depending on the weather and other factors. Figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and prepared by IBCE reveal that in four months of this year a value of 594 million dollars in food was exported, 49% more than in 2020 in value and 11% more in volume, while imports reached 164 million dollars (see graph). Sales of non-traditional products, 80% of which are food, exceed those of hydrocarbons.
