In the context of strengthening biosecurity measures to address sheep and goat pox in Greece, the Epidemic Management Working Group decided to implement 8 measures across the entire country, reports the Ministry of Rural Development and Food of Greece. The first measure involves extending the working hours of disinfection stations to service more vehicles transporting live animals, feed, and milk, aiming to reduce microbial load. It is also proposed to explore the possibility of providing financial support to livestock farmers for disinfection expenses. Greece has allocated 42 million euros in compensation to its livestock farmers due to sheep and goat pox. The second measure provides for enhanced surveillance and control of measures, speeding up procedures for imposing sanctions in cases of non-compliance or concealment of cases.
