The Provincial Executive (GS) in Friesland has sparked controversy with its goose policy, which significantly deviates from the advice of a steering group of agricultural and nature organizations. The group, which was prematurely dissolved last year, included representatives from various farmers' unions. Peter van Kempen, a member of the group, has accused GS of prioritizing geese protection over other interests. The Dutch Dairy Farmers' Union (NMV) has requested the withdrawal of the 'Goose in Balance' plan and asked for two months to develop a new proposal. Van Kempen has also lodged a formal complaint against the government's actions.
