Potato farmers in northern India are experiencing heavy crop losses due to ground frost caused by recent temperature drops. The freeze has also impacted other vegetable crops and mustard across Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The damage ranges from 30-40% for early varieties and up to 80% for late varieties. Jaskaran Singh, a farmer from Salempur Masanda village in Punjab, lost 80% of his 16-hectare potato crop. The damage is particularly severe in Punjab, with late variety plants turning black and coming to a complete stop, resulting in no yield.
