In the first half of 2021, the consumption of fruit and vegetables of Italian families returns to pre-Covid levels. But, compared to the first half of 2020, the decline is generalized. The Cso Italy Market Observatory, based on Gfk data processing, is clear: the 2.9 million tons of fresh fruit and vegetables purchased between January and June represent a contraction of 5% year on year, but also an unchanged quantity compared to the average of the three-year period 2017-2019. "In the period under analysis, the positive data comes from organic fruit and vegetables, which rises to 171 thousand tons with a growth of 1% compared to 2020", comments the director of Cso Italy Elisa Macchi. In the analysis by category, the first half closed with a partial of 1.48 million tons of fruit purchased, or -6% compared to 2020.
