In the 2025 Autonomous Management Fisheries Excellent Community Evaluation held by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Gangneung Crab Trap Net Association was selected as an excellent community. Autonomous Management Fisheries refers to a community form of fisheries where fishermen themselves form a community and establish their own regulations to promote activities such as fishing ground protection and income increase. In this evaluation, the Gangneung Crab Trap Net Association was highly evaluated for being exemplary in areas such as self-education of fishermen, monitoring and compliance with illegal fishing and safe operations, seed release, and development and marketing of their own products.
