(Hongcheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hak = A festival to taste ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples simultaneously opened in Hongcheon on the 30th.
Hongcheon County and the Hongcheon Cultural Foundation opened the '23rd Ginseng and Hanwoo Premium Festival' and the '10th Apple Festival' at Tori Forest in Hongcheon Town today, presenting a variety of programs for four days.
The opening ceremony was attended by Hongcheon County Mayor Shin Young-jae, Hongcheon Cultural Foundation Chairman Jeon Myeong-jun, and local community organizations.
A performance celebrating the opening involved attendees pulling a rope on stage, which displayed a bird's-eye view of Hongcheon Station on a large screen, drawing attention.
Hongcheon Station represents the residents' wish for the early commencement of the construction of the Hongcheon-Yongmun railway.
Hongcheon County Mayor Shin Young-jae said, "This will be an unforgettable opportunity to taste the region's representative premium agricultural products—ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples—together."
During the festival, events such as the 'Ten Thousand Won Happiness Event' where participants can take home Hanwoo bones, apple peeling contests, and ginseng auctions will be held.
Various performances, including radio open broadcasts, premium Korean concerts, and Hongcheon River song festivals, will also enliven the festival.
Additionally, this year's festival has increased food tasting and discount events featuring local representative foods.
Moreover, Hongcheon County will hold an event where purchasing over 20,000 won at the rural fusion industry and traditional liquor promotion center will entitle participants to a gift of 1 kg of Hongcheon rice.
Discounts through sales promotions will include up to 20% off for Hanwoo beef, 30% off for Yangji and Satae, and 50% off for bones.
On the weekend of the 31st, a 'civil-government-military harmony open court folk event' will be held along the road of Hwaeom Mountain Park near the festival site.
Additionally, the '3rd Premium Gateball Tournament', '18th Worldwide Korean Ethnic Football Tournament', and '4th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Women's Sports Festival' will be held during the festival period, expected to boost the local economy.
On the last day of the festival, the 2nd of next month, the Ginseng King, Hanwoo King, and Apple King awards will be presented, and a lucky draw will offer various prizes.
Hongcheon Cultural Foundation Chairman Jeon Myeong-jun said, "This year, in addition to the region's representative premium ginseng, Hanwoo beef, and apples, various sports events will make the festival more abundant" and "We hope you will experience the taste, style, and warmth of the region through special sales events and activities."
