China's tilapia exports to the United States decreased in quantity and value during the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. However, there was good news for frozen whole tilapia trade between China and other markets, with significant growth in purchases and sales. The U.S. tilapia import market was weak due to inflation and rising food prices, resulting in a decrease in both volume and value of imports. Brazilian tilapia exports were also lower in the first half of 2023 due to a disease outbreak, but exports of chilled tilapia fillets from Latin America were not affected. The United States and Japan are the main markets for Latin American tilapia.
