Government and Senate discuss relief for agribusiness debts

A meeting held this Wednesday (8/4) at the presidency of the Federal Senate discussed the main challenges facing the Brazilian agribusiness sector, including the effects of the war in the Middle East, risks in the supply of fertilizers, extreme weather events, and the scenario of high interest rates coupled with falling commodity prices. The meeting brought together parliamentarians linked to agribusiness and representatives of the economic team, including the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan. Among the impacts discussed, the floods in Rio Grande do Sul and other climatic adversities that have been compromising production in different regions of the country were highlighted. Another key point was the advancement of PL 5122/2023, which authorizes the use of the Pre-salt Social Fund to finance debts of producers affected by climatic events.
