This policy is taken in line with the strengthening of domestic production, deemed safe stock, and the commitment to food self-sufficiency. Deputy for Coordination of Trade and Food Distribution of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Crops Tatang Yuliono emphasized that consumer rice and sugar are not included in the 2026 import scheme. “(For sugar) consumption, there is no import. So for (sugar) consumption, there is no import. Consumer rice import (also) does not exist. Industrial rice does not happen. If for consumption, we are almost entirely self-sufficient,” said Tatang, Thursday (1/1/2026).
