The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council issued an urgent statement on the 9th, urging the government to immediately halt its push to import U.S. apples, which is currently under review as a mutual tariff negotiation card. Prior to the statement's release, the council noted that "according to a report in the Seoul Economic Newspaper on the 5th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been revealed to have instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to proactively review importing U.S. apples as a card for Korea-U.S. trade negotiations." They further stated that "as a result, strong concerns and backlash are pouring in from apple-producing agricultural households in Gyeongbuk Province, including the Gyeongbuk Provincial Apple-Producing City and County Mayors Association and various producer organizations."
