The South Korean delegation of the Korea-Japan Fisheries Consultation Committee (headed by Chairman Jeong Young-hoon of the Korea Fisheries Association) met with the Japanese delegation and requested their cooperation for the prompt resumption of negotiations between the two governments on the mutual fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ). The South Korean delegation emphasized the need for the swift resumption of the government-level EEZ mutual fishing negotiations to ensure the stability of fishing operations and enhance resource management for fishermen from both countries, during the 19th Korea-Japan Fisheries Consultation Committee held in Seoul on the 4th. They also requested the active cooperation and support of the Japanese side. Furthermore, the South Korean side brought up to the Japanese side cases of damage caused by drift nets and pots due to the operations of Japanese bottom trawling vessels in the waters between the two countries.
