The Gyeonggi Provincial Research Institute of Marine and Fisheries Resources has released 1.4 million smelt fish, recently hatched, into Namyang Lake, Pyeongtaek Lake, and Lake Tando. This initiative is aimed at restoring native fish stocks and boosting fishermen's income. The smelt are fertilized eggs that have been incubated since being selected from a healthy mother in Lake Soyang last March. The institute plans to sequentially produce and release other popular fish species until October.
