The article reports on the successful harvest of aronia fruits in the Çarşamba district of Samsun, Turkey, with the cultivation area expanding to 100 decares under the Aronia Cultivation Development Project. This project aims to diversify agricultural production, particularly for hazelnut producers, and has seen initial expectations of a yield of 4-5 tons from 2,200 aronia plants on a 10-decare area. The aronia fruit is known for its wide adaptability, high nutritional value, and potential for various food and industrial uses, including confectionery, juice, and cosmetics. The project has already seen significant returns, with estimates of up to 500,000 TL net income from 1 decare of an aronia orchard within five years, making it a promising alternative crop for the region.
