The preliminary vegetable survey for 2024 in Bavaria, Germany, forecasts a slight decrease in asparagus production and significantly lower strawberry yields compared to the previous year. Asparagus production is expected to drop by 1.2%, totaling around 18,300 tons from 3,500 hectares, with a decrease of 10.5% from the long-term average. Strawberry production is projected to experience an 8.8% drop, with an estimated total of 9,200 tons from 1,600 hectares, which is 20.3% lower than the average for the years 2018-2023. This decrease is largely attributed to extreme weather conditions such as frost, hail, and heavy rainfall, leading to below-average yields and total losses in some cases. The final figures from the main vegetable survey are due to be released in spring 2025.
