A new international group, Corylus Europae, has been established by major European hazelnut players from Italy, France, and Spain, representing almost 80% of the continent's production. The group's mission is to share information, coordinate actions, and work with the European Union to enhance the European hazelnut sector. The goals include establishing a common identity, promoting sustainable and quality production, and ensuring food sovereignty by reducing reliance on imports. The group also highlighted challenges such as parasite protection and the effects of climate change, and proposed solutions including the approval of a research program and mutual recognition of authorized products among the member states.
