A severe heat wave has destroyed yam farms across Taraba State, affecting areas such as Yorro, Zing, Lau, Jalingo, and Ardo-Kola. The heat wave and delayed rainfall have prevented good germination of yam seeds, causing fear among farmers of a poor harvest this year. The high cost of yam seed has further limited farmers' ability to replant. As a result, the usual yam harvest season in June has passed with no mature yam farms, indicating a potential significant decrease in yam production this year.
