Jeju Island is taking steps to minimize crop damage due to heat waves and early droughts, with a particular focus on carrot cultivation. The region has planted 60% of its intended carrot cultivation area, but soil drying and early drought are delaying planting and causing imbalanced growth. This drought is also impacting farmers' ability to subscribe to agricultural disaster insurance, which now requires a 50% emergence rate. In response, the province is operating a drought response situation room and promoting agricultural water supply measures. They have installed public water bags and provided water to affected areas, and the governor has announced plans to inspect and improve the water supply system for rural areas and discuss improvements to crop disaster insurance with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
