Hungary's cherry growers are optimistic about the upcoming harvest season, which is expected to be good due to favorable weather conditions. The country, which has around 2,600 cherry producers covering approximately 12-14 thousand hectares, might see a harvest of 55-60 thousand tons this year, according to Ferenc Takács, vice president of the fruit and vegetable producers' alliance FruitVeB. This is average compared to the past 15-20 years, but a significant improvement compared to Poland, where spring frosts have caused half of the cherry harvest to be lost. The state program to support orchards will continue, and about 10 thousand tons of cherries are expected to be exported, promising good prices for producers.
