Since September, officials in East Yorkshire have confiscated 80kg of illegal pork imports at the ports from various EU countries. The local health authority has been enforcing measures to combat African swine fever, which have prohibited pork imports above 2kg unless they are in verified commercial packaging with EU health marks. The authorities have voluntarily surrendered or seized four consignments of meat from different EU countries and destroyed them. The health authority is seeking additional funding to enforce these measures and plans to implement a joint initiative with UK Border Force to target freight arrivals in the ports.
