In 2025, 4.8% of the total agricultural land was used for organic farming, almost as much as in 2024. By 2030, at least 15% of the agricultural land must be used for organic farming, as stated in the 'Action Plan – Growth of Organic Production and Consumption' of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature. The transition period from conventional to organic use of agricultural land takes an average of two years. In 2025, there was an addition of 7,800 hectares of organic agricultural land compared to 2024, while 5,300 hectares went out of production for organic use. This resulted in a net addition of just over 2,500 hectares of organic agricultural land. Of all the organically certified plots of land in 2024, 93.8% were also certified as organic in 2025. Between 2018 and 2025, an average of 94.1% of the organic agricultural plots were also organic a year earlier. In the Netherlands, there are over 1,900 certified organic farms and horticultural businesses.
