The city of Incheon announced the 2021 research results of its Fisheries Resources Research Institute, which is focused on boosting local fishery productivity and recovering fishery resources. The institute is achieving this through the creation of beneficial aquatic resources, securing aquaculture technology, and studying the marine ecosystem in the face of environmental changes. The 2021 report highlighted the release of 4.08 million aquatic seeds across six varieties and the production of mussels for high-value-added regional specialties. Other research areas included the restoration of tidal flats using Gaebul, studies on rare and protected marine life, genetic diversity of useful aquatic organisms, operation of a nationally designated disease assessment agency, and research on seaweed ecology and industrialization off the coast of Incheon.
