The Rural Development Administration has suggested developing the domestic market for kaolyangju, a traditional Korean liquor, to increase income for sorghum growers. Currently, the market is dominated by imports from China and Taiwan. The administration is also working on reducing sorghum production costs through mechanization and developing solid fermentation and distillation technologies to compete with imported products. They have applied for patents for three technologies related to kaolyangju production and plan to commercialize a domestic brand using these technologies by the end of the year.
