India's monsoon rains have started to retreat from the northwest of the country, nearly a week later than normal, as reported by the India Meteorological Department. The monsoon, which provides around 70% of India's annual rainfall, has been 5.5% above average this season. The IMD predicts that the monsoon is likely to further retreat in some other parts of West Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat in the next 24 hours.
