India, the world's largest importer of vegetable oils, has seen a decrease in palm oil imports, dropping to 586,000 tonnes in February, the lowest since June 2022. This is due to weak demand, with refiners reducing purchases. This could impact the price of Malaysian palm oil. Additionally, India is considering halting duty-free imports of sunflower and soybean oils, which could support palm oil prices. In contrast, Malaysia's palm oil inventories have fallen to a five-month low due to slowed exports and production. However, demand is expected to rise ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, set to begin on March 22.
