India is predicted to see a record sugar production in the next marketing year, starting from October, due to an increase in sugarcane cultivation by millions of farmers. This surge is attributed to ample water supplies and lower prices for competing crops. The country's sugar production is anticipated to surpass local consumption in the 2025/26 marketing year, allowing for the resumption of exports after two years of restrictions due to low yields. The monsoon rains this year have been especially beneficial for the sugarcane-growing regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The increased production could help offset potential global sugar price increases caused by reduced shipments from Brazil due to dry weather.
