The General Administration of Customs of China has approved the export of Indonesian fresh pineapples to China, adhering to specific phytosanitary requirements. Exporting pineapple orchards and packaging plants must be registered with the Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine Bureau and approved by the Chinese customs authority. Indonesian pineapples will undergo strict quarantine measures, including inspections for quarantine pests, and must be grown under good agricultural practices and integrated pest control. The export volume of Indonesia's pineapple production, which reached 2.92 million tons in 2021, is anticipated to increase following this approval, as China was previously restrictive in importing only five fresh fruits from Indonesia. This development marks a significant achievement for Indonesia's pineapple industry, which has been pursuing this opportunity since 2016.
