International grants helped Moldovan farmer develop vegetable business

Entrepreneur Vasile Cherdivara from Edinet (Moldova) together with his sons started growing vegetables on an area of 25 hectares. Later they expanded their land and thus began to produce from 1,300 to 1,500 tons of vegetables per year, irrigating the fields with a drip method, EastFruit reports. According to the entrepreneur, the family business is developing largely thanks to grants from European partners. “We try to minimize the amount of herbicides and weed by hand. We grow different crops: onions, cabbage, peppers, eggplants, and this year we added watermelons and potatoes,” said Vasile Cherdivara. As reported by the IPN agency, for the Cherdivara family the largest market for vegetables grown in Edinet is the wholesale market in Chisinau, where they manage to sell almost 800 tons of fresh vegetables annually.
