Iran is planning to become self-sufficient in wheat by 2024 and has no plans to import the grain crop that year, as stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Alireza Mohajer. The country's wheat production reached 10.5 million tons from March 2023 to March 2024, while imports were reduced from 7 million tons to 1 million tons per year. The main issue in the country's agro-industrial sector is the reduction of agricultural land. Russia is the largest supplier of wheat to Iran, with annual imports ranging from 2.5 to 3 million tons.
