A public meeting between cattle producers in the Bymount region, north of Roma, and the assistant minister for Primary Industries, Sean Dillon, was held to address concerns following a cattle tick outbreak. Producers voiced their need for clear protocols and enhanced communication to prevent the spread of ticks and ensure treatment effectiveness. They expressed frustration about the lack of transparency and the spread of information through the rumor mill. Dillon acknowledged the serious economic threat posed by the ticks and the need for a comprehensive communication strategy. Since the outbreak's detection at the Roma Saleyards on November 5, it has affected 38 properties and involved over 10,500 cattle. The government is recruiting additional staff to support the tick eradication efforts, which are expected to last at least 12 to 18 months.
