In 2022, Hungary experienced a 20% decrease in the export value and a 22% decrease in the export volume of fresh or chilled asparagus, with Germany and Switzerland being its largest markets. The country also faced a fall in the price of asparagus after it was put on the market, due to low domestic consumption and the majority of the crop being exported. The 2023 asparagus season started later due to adverse weather conditions, and there was an increase in the price of asparagus on German wholesale markets.
