The Jeollanam-do Province has launched a nationwide consumption promotion campaign to respond to the expected wholesale price drop due to increased onion production this year. According to the Korea Rural Economic Institute's forecast information, the production of mid-to-late maturing onion varieties for the 2025 season is expected to increase by 34,000 tons compared to the previous year. Following the early-variety onion harvest in April and with the mid-to-late maturing onion harvest approaching in June, optimal environmental conditions such as suitable temperatures and rainfall have led to a 7.5% increase in production yield compared to last year. As concerns grew about potential price declines due to the surge in production, Jeollanam-do Province proactively proposed preemptive measures to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which oversees onion supply management.
