A new watermelon variety called 'Karishma', imported from Japan, has seen success in Bangladesh after its test cultivation, with farmers finding it more profitable than other crops due to higher yield and lower production costs. A local company imported the seeds, and the hybrid variety can be cultivated year-round, with harvesting possible two months after planting. The upazila agriculture officer is encouraging large-scale cultivation of the variety, expecting it to be profitable for farmers. Meanwhile, in Joypurhat, farmers are also experiencing success with watermelon cultivation, particularly with varieties imported from Thailand and Taiwan, and one farmer has made a profit of Tk 0.2 million from cultivating watermelon on one bigha of land.
