The Cereal Millers Association (CMA) and the Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya have entered into an agreement to cap the price of maize flour at Sh100 for a 2-kilogram packet. This move, aimed at making food more affordable, follows President Uhuru Kenyatta's announcement of new stimulus measures to combat the high cost of living. The CMA will sell maize flour to retailers and distributors at a subsidized rate, which will be passed on to consumers. An oversight committee will be formed to ensure the success of the subsidy program. This decision is significant as maize meal is a staple food in Kenya, and its increasing cost had become a concern for many.
