Currently, 80% of Europe's basil supplies come from Kenya which supplies the winter market with chilled air cargo that guarantees deliveries within half a day. However, other countries such as Israel and Morocco also supply basil, with Israel providing higher-priced produce and Morocco offering cheaper but lower quality basil. In terms of the Italian basil market, the humid and rainy weather in March and April affected the summer basil campaign, leading to low supply and high demand. In addition, other aromatic herbs face difficulties in production and commercialization due to the availability of local produce in northern European countries and competition from German produce. Coriander is the most popular herb in Europe, but Italy struggles to meet demand due to summer temperatures damaging the produce.
