Poland: The prices of edible potatoes wholesale are higher than starch potatoes

At the same time, the prices of edible potatoes in wholesale are significantly higher than those of starch potatoes (approx. PLN 0.60 / kg), which may additionally cause dissatisfaction of their producers. It should also be remembered that starch potato growers who have cultivation contracts receive a coupled payment. The rate of this payment for 2021 is PLN 1,210.32 / ha, i.e. PLN 82.08 more than for 2020. One of the reasons for the low prices of starch potatoes this season is the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The starch industry plants in Poland still have stocks of unsold goods produced last season. The situation is similar all over Europe.
