Pineapple growers in Madhupur, Tangail are experiencing a bountiful harvest this year, with the region known for producing high-quality pineapples due to their unique taste and aroma. The Jalchhatra haat market in the upazila has been bustling with activity as buyers and sellers from various parts of the district come to purchase the fresh produce. Besides Madhupur, pineapple crops in the Paharia area of Ghatail and Sakhipur upazilas have also seen a good yield, largely due to heatwaves. The main pineapple varieties cultivated in these regions are Jaldugi or Honey Queen, and Calendar. However, farmers lament that they often do not receive fair prices for their produce, with pineapples being sold at Tk 20-25 each, which increases to Tk 100 in Dhaka.
