A ship, the Stellina, has docked at Mombasa port carrying 21,455 metric tonnes of white maize from Mozambique, as part of efforts to address a cereal shortage in Kenya. The port also received 22,820 metric tonnes of sorghum from the US and 27,998 metric tonnes of wheat from Canada. The government is allowing the private sector to import 10 million bags of maize in the next six months to help lower flour prices, which are at an all-time high due to the shortage. Kenya has also been importing large quantities of wheat due to a supply disruption caused by the conflict in Ukraine and Russia.
