Malaysian authorities have streamlined the import process for US sorghum, a move that is anticipated to boost American grain exports. This change is expected to make US sorghum more competitive in the Malaysian market, allowing the country to acquire high-quality feed and food products. In the 2023-2024 marketing year, Malaysia's sorghum purchases from the US exceeded $28 million, a figure that has been surpassed this year, reaching $32 million by February. The US Grain Council (USGC) plans to promote American sorghum in Southeast Asia, highlighting its flexibility and nutritional benefits, and is hopeful that the new rules will enhance trade relations between the US and Malaysia.
