The South Korean government is taking steps to prevent the distribution of unapproved genetically modified organisms (LMOs) in the country. These measures include making it mandatory for all imported seeds to have plant quarantine certificates, strengthening fines for non-reporting of quarantine, and revising the Plant Protection Act to increase fines and the possibility of imprisonment for non-compliance. Additionally, inspections for LMOs will be enhanced at various stages, and support for damage will be increased through organizational and manpower expansion, facility improvement, and cooperation with the Korea Customs Service.
