Today, organic acids and their derivatives are considered as the main and most promising alternative to feed antibiotics in the feeding of pigs and poultry. However, despite all the advantages, they have a number of disadvantages, including corrosivity (they spoil feed equipment), an unpleasant smell and taste for animals and poultry, and dependence on the pH of the environment. This is reported by the magazine The Ukrainian Farmer. While medium-chain triglycerides of fatty acids have more pronounced antibacterial, fungicidal, and antiviral actions, a neutral smell and taste, are non-corrosive, do not irritate mucous membranes, are thermostable, and do not depend on pH values. For example, monoglyceride of lauric acid, better known as monolaurin or glycerol monolaurate. This is a complex monoester formed from glycerol and lauric acid. The most effective form of monolaurin is alpha-monolaurin. It mainly acts on gram-positive bacteria and viruses with a lipid envelope, as it ...
